Moving out?

If you're thinking of moving out whilst at uni here's a few things you might need to know:

1) Research! This is so important, it helps if you know the difference between accommodation too-

Halls- usually owned by the uni, probably sharing between 8-10 people and are usually the cheapest
Shared flats- I live in a shared flat. I have my own bathroom, bedroom and space! My room is pretty big. This type of accommodation can be a little expensive so look at your student finance and budget first.
House- Normally in the second and third year students do this! It is pretty cheap for houses looking around £80 a week including bills.

It's important to know how far you are from the uni in your accommodation. I live right outside, whereas people who live in halls live about 30 minutes away.

Book appointments to have a look around and take someone responsible so they get all the key info!

2) what you need to buy

Set yourself another budget of things you need: stationery, bedding, clothes, towels, pots and pans.
I was quite lucky as my nannan gave me lots of uni things like towels, duvet, iron and kettle so ask around the family. Remember you're not at home so you can't just nick your sisters sellotape or your big brothers stapler. Here's my list of what I bought:

Stationery
- Notebooks
- :Pens
- Sellotape
- stapler
- Paper Clips

Bedding
- 2 sets of bedding
- pillows
- 2 duvets (one was to make my bed more comfy)
- little teddies to keep it homely

Bathroom
- 2 sets of towels
- toothbrush holder
- toiletry basket
- toilet brush
- bin

Decor
- few posters
- photos of my loved ones
- little ornaments
- folder holders
- photo frames

Kitchen
- pan set
- frying pan
- cutlery
- bread knife and veg knife
- chopping boards
- plates and bowls
- mugs and glasses

After the few things I got given to me I think I spent around £90 on uni shopping
and don't forget coat hangers!

3) If you want to keep your job whilst at uni let them know that you are moving out. As a casual receptionist my work was pretty accepting of me moving away and give me regular weekend shifts.

4) work out a moving date that works good for everyone. I moved most of my stuff in before I actually moved in to make it easier.

5) one little thing DO NOT WORRY about feeling a little alone in your room. Go to a few flat parties or host your own! Get to know your roommates and make your room homely.
